"I see cow in his eyes, not wolf!" [Aug. 31st, 2009|08:32 pm]

[mood |geeky]

I failed my driver's test on Friday. It was pretty awful, and really embarrassing to admit to, but I might as well. I'm such an anxious driver that the pressure of the test plus the condescending attitude of the woman giving me the test made me too nervous to function. Then we ended with this little gem: "You're how old again?"

Thanks, lady. I love being kicked while I'm down.

That was the bad news, but there has been good stuff too! Like Shawna and I seeing American Idol live in Boston. I never really imagined I would get into AI fandom at all, but the sparkly wonderful power of Kradam is almost as difficult to resist as Arashi. No, seriously, even they can't resist it.

There was singing! Dancing! Shiny things! Adam grabbing his crotch and gyrating! I'm easy like that. Failure of the venue to get its shit together aside, it was all pretty awesome. Bambi won't let me live this down, and to be honest, I find it highly ironic when she's the one questioning my taste. The whole trip was pretty spontaneous, but it was worth it; and even better, while I was in Massachusetts, I got to hang out with Ani, Tim, and Jen as well, so we had a nice school reunion. :)

This past weekend, at Bambi's insistence, I went with her to a Twilight convention in New Jersey. I'm not a fan of the books or the movies, so I wasn't particularly looking forward to it, but it actually ended up being a lot of fun.

Speaking of sparkles... )

[mood | bored]

It feels like the last couple of weeks have been incredibly mundane. I think that's mainly because I haven't gone anywhere, and all things considered, it's probably a good thing. I've realized that so far this year, I've had at least one major event or trip that I've gone on every single month. THIS IS WHY I'M BROKE BTW.

We did have a little party yesterday for my aunt's birthday. It was a surprise party, and one of the first times I've ever seen a surprise party actually end up unspoiled. She was genuinely shocked that we had thrown it together, it was nice to see her so happy. :D

The party itself was a lot of fun, despite being Twilight-themed (my aunt's a huge Twilight fan), and my mother and I mostly despising Twilight. Bambi came up with some games (Interview with a Vampire, VAMP Bingo, etc. It was pretty lulzy), and gave the whole book series as a gift. It was one of those moments where the gift-receiver is so surprised that they tear up, and so almost everyone in the room ends up crying. It was such a cheesy Kodak moment, it was disgusting. ;)

And since I had nothing else to do, I mainly started to try and catch up on the new dramas this week. Specifically, Orthros no Inu and Buzzer Beat.

If there's one thing I'll always appreciate about Japan, it's their knack for subtlety.

The bad guy is dressed all in white! The good guy is dressed all in black! There's a gigantic, religious seeming painting looming in the background! SHIT, WHERE CAN WE FIT MORE SYMBOLS?

It might be spoilery, so I'm cutting it )

One piece of good news is that I've sent out an application for a county job this week. With any luck, I'll hear back from them in the next week or two. :D I really need a job, like, yesterday, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

[music |HYDE - Prayer]

So, I went to go see VAMPS twice this past week. I was at both the New York City show on July 11, and the one in Baltimore on the 16th. After being a fan of Hyde's stuff for several years now, it's so bizarre to have the chance to see him live. :D

New York! )

Do you eat crabs? Baltimore! )

Enough of that jumble of incoherency. Pictures & stuff!

[mood | excited]

It's been a crazy week and a half.

Last Tuesday, I went out to see Yelena in Minnesota. Now, New York's been having some rain lately, to put it mildly. It just so happens that the day that I was supposed to catch my flight, it started downpouring - thunder, lightning, flood warnings, the works. We're talking wrath of God here, people. I was already a little anxious to begin with, but mostly in a good way. I hadn't seen Yelena in more than three years, so I was really excited. The ever-increasing chance of death while taking off didn't even damper it... much.

I'm not sensible enough to be afraid to planes crashing anyway. We went right through a storm cloud, and despite the turbulence, all I could think of was how cool it looked being at eye level with the lightning. :\

No, I really am spending the week in Minnesota! )

I'm a bit sad to be home now. :( When you haven't seen someone for three years, spending less than a week visiting them seems more like a tease than anything.

BUT WAIT. THERE'S MORE. Yesterday was the NYC premiere of Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince, and Bambi really wanted to go and watch the red carpet arrivals.

Draco Malfoy is larger than my fridge )

That was probably the most tl;dr post I've ever made.

And to top everything else off, tomorrow is the VAMPS concert in New York, which is crazy. I'm still having a hard time digesting the fact that I'll be seeing them live in hours. :D

They're not the hell your whales! [Jun. 23rd, 2009|09:50 am]
[Tags|, , , , , , ]

So, I did another MIA deal and haven't updated this. I know, I know, I'm an awful LJ friend. :\ Mostly, I hesitated to post anything recently, just because my real life has been so up and down. My dad has had to get two surgeries, and so on. But things seem to be settling down a bit more, thankfully.

So on to better things! I got a kitten last week! :D I am a nerd, and apparently so is my family, so after much heated debate over what we should name him, we decided on Tiberius. ("No, that's the worst!" I hear people saying. BUT IT'S NOT.) He's incredibly fluffy and a huge attention whore, and he likes to climb on my face while I'm trying to sleep. He's a total brat, and I love him. <3

Shawna has been here for the week, and we are up to all sorts of shenanigans. And by shenanigans, I generally mean watching jdramas and Arashi shit. We're marathoning Stand Up, which I think may be one of my new favorite dramas forever - mostly because Nino is in it doing stuff like this:

We also took a break from our busy lives to go to the New Kids On the Block concert in Saratoga. Which was pretty epic. And it's probably saying something about how much JE has warped my mind when I'm honestly a bit disappointed that none of their costume/wardrobe changes included anything with sparkles, fringe, and/or feathers. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE BOYBAND BEHAVIOR.

An update WHAT? [Apr. 26th, 2009|12:33 am]
[Tags|, , , , , ]
[mood | bored]

I got back from visiting my cousins in Washington DC on Tuesday. :D I probably would have gotten around to updating my LJ sooner, but of course, my internet stopped working for about 2-3 days. :\

Pictures and rambling about DC )

*RANTY RANT* I stopped at FYE on the way home from DC to pick up the Tinted Windows CD (released Tuesday!), and it wasn't there. So Bambi and I asked them if they had it, and they told us it was coming in the next day. Um, aren't you guys a media/music store? Isn't getting things before the release date just part of the deal? I finally tracked it down after a couple of days, so I'll probably end up writing up some ridiculous review to pimp it out at some point, because it is fabulous. I can't help myself with anything Hanson related. That, and this month was my fandom anniversary for Hanson. 12 years! :x

And I've activated the first step in my plan to make at least one member of my family an Arashi fan by the end of the year. The only one who's cracked even a little so far is my dad, haha. :D The one I'm the most confident will eventually give in is my aunt, and I'm currently preparing to send her the first few episodes of Hana Yori Dango. Because everyone eventually succumbs to Hana Yori Dango. I'm hoping it turns out something like this:

Me: Oh, you like anime? How about an awesome live action J-drama with lots of romance and pretty and happiness and yay?
Her: ....sure.
Me: Oh, so you LOVED IT, RIGHT? And the lead character? How about watching some of the shows he does with his band, Arashi?
Her: Okay!
Me: Oh, I see. NOW YOU'RE COMPLETELY IN LOVE WITH THEM AND NEED EVERYTHING ELSE THEY'VE EVER DONE, RIGHT?
Her: OMG YES.

This plan may or may not have some flaws.

[mood | sleepy]

I got my copy of H in the mail, with the Sho in NYC photoshoot! I pretty much carried it around and showed it to anyone that was willing to look at that little dot in the background that was ever-so-definitely me. Because I'm totally lame! And really, only my mom sort of cared, because mothers are supposed to care when their daughter is a pseudo in-the-background-of-a-foreign-publication celebrity.

Aaaand, I've finally caught up and watched the NEWS PV. It had everything I expect from a NEWS video (bad choreography, Shige failure, the Pi-cups) plus disco. This combination cannot be bad. Ever.

In other news: VAMPS. I'm going to the New York and Baltimore shows! The whole thing happened so quickly, I don't really know how they have the power to make me rationalize "Sure, Baltimore, why not?" It's going to be epic, and amazing, and God help me if there's merchandise there, because I'll be broke by the end of this trip.

For less fun financial worries, my sister sort of guilted me into a trip to DC as well. Which she might think of as persuading, but she left me a voicemail along the lines of:

"Hi Holly! I just found a really great deal on tickets to DC, but it only works if you book tickets for two people! But I understand, if you can't come, you can't come. Also, Jackie said she'd be really upset if you couldn't make it. Love you, call me later!"

And I've joined the ranks of the most pointless site on the internet and got myself a Twitter. Feel free to friend me if you have one. :D

It's Been Awhile [Mar. 22nd, 2009|10:52 pm]

[mood | sleepy]
[music |VAMPS - Trouble]

I've finally been re-acquainted with the internet! Apologies to everything/everyone I've neglected the past few weeks, it's been crazy and busy here (for once). Shawna came out here and stayed for about two weeks, and then I started my new job at the same time.

The job is pretty boring, actually. I'm doing data entry for Bank of America and key in the income tax returns for New York. The plus side to this is that I don't have to deal with angry customers, and I can listen to my iPod all day long. The bad side is that I often feel like I'm going to fall asleep with my face on the keyboard, and the main boss is kind of a drama queen bitch at times. We must be secretly filmed in this office, because I swear she's gearing up for an Emmy with her little office announcements.

Tonight, DirecTV aired with first Tinted Windows performance at SXSW, so I got to see them perform a bunch of new stuff finally. :D Seriously, after watching it, I've started to ship Taylor and James Iha. No, I'm not the kind of fan that wants to think of Taylor as a slut who will go for any pretty boy, and tries to find plausible ways to slash him in JE. They were even wearing match-y outfits! ♥

I liked the performance, mostly. Taylor sounded a little off, but he seemed very nervous too... like he was realizing that he was swimming with much bigger fish than he's used to, and he was a little intimidated. But the songs were fun, and most of them I liked better than "Kind of a Girl".

I should also probably mention that the Supernatural convention I went to with Shawna and Bambi a couple of weeks ago was pretty fabulous, discounting Jared failing and canceling on us. But, you know, Misha. ♥

Hi to everyone I've recently friended!

Things that are bad about this past week:
-Jared canceling his appearance at the Supernatural con. SERIOUSLY WTF. NOT COOL, JARED.
-The Japanese store in the mall here is closing down in a few weeks. This is JUST when I'm about to have a decent enough income to go buy things. Sigh.
-Finishing Zettai Kareshi finally... which I liked, but seriously, I should have been warned before starting it that the ending STABS YOU IN THE HEART.

Things that are good about this week:
-BOBBY WILL BE THERE. Bambi is determined to tell him that he was her favorite character in Turner & Hooch. ;)
-We might go on Saturday now, which = MISHAFACE.
-Everything in the store was half off, and I found a Music Station Super Live DVD there! Arashi, Yamapi, KAT-TUN (sans Jin), pretty much every Johnny on the planet was on it. AND RANDOMLY, DANIEL POWTER PERFORMED LULZ.
-Shawna is going to be here! :D Cat sitting, of course.
-I got a good haircut! It's very short again, and I'm really happy with it. Bambi put in dark and light red highlights in hers, which I'm pretty sure probably glow in the dark. My mom put in some red underneath the top layer of blond, which makes her very PUNK ROCK.
-All This Love Crap, Taylor's new Supergroup, and the Mmmcock '09 scandal reminded me why I love Hanson so much. ♥

Back to SUPER LIVE... )

I'm thinking of opening something up on Etsy, even though I doubt most of the world is in the market for the weird J-Pop stuff I make. :\ Which will also mean 3 out of 4 people in my family will have their own Etsy shop. We're really just that awesome.

How do you make the Hanson fanbase explode in insanity and tons of hilarious wank?

Let this slip that Taylor's joined a new band.

"The Born to Rock and Roll and the Daily Swarm blogs both claim that there's a movement afoot involving Tulsa brother Taylor Hanson, James Iha of Smashing Pumpkins, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick."

I haven't seen this much panic since his wedding photos leaked.

NYCC Day 1: In which I go to the Yatterman premiere running on nothing but adrenaline and sheer dumb luck )

My two short videos from the day:

In short, all the individual fans that we met throughout the day were mostly very awesome. The fans, in general, were very disappointing. I can't say that it's a very good impression of American fans, or at least not the ideal one, but I'd like to think that we at least tried to leave a good impression on those we were around.

Stay tuned for day 2 of NYCC, in which Bambi and I weasel our way into Milo Ventimiglia's panel, but more importantly, meet THE NINJA TURTLES.

[music |Eels - Nothing Inside]

I should probably update since it's been awhile. I've been really incredibly busy for the past couple of weeks.

First! Tiffany and Clinton's wedding was on the 15th, and it was a really beautiful ceremony. They had asked me to sing during the ceremony, so I sang "Everything" by Lifehouse towards the end of the ceremony while they were lighting the unity candle. I was really honored to be a part of the whole thing. :) People seemed to think I did a pretty good job, so it made me feel nice to contribute. After seeing them together for so long, it was really nice to be able to get to their wedding - Clinton's been a part of the family for awhile now.

Then, from Charlotte, we got a flight down to Florida so we could spend the week in DISNEY. Being in Disney reverts me back to be five years old again. ;) Since I get to do awesome things like fulfill my childhood dream of ~meeting Aladdin~ (perhaps my first cartoon crush?), and Jack Sparrow as well. We had a very good time, I hung out with Tiffany, Clinton, and Chris the whole time. I miss spending time with them.

My favorite thing had to be going to EPCOT Japan, and eating at the Tokyo Dining restaurant. I got myself a Bento Box, and green tea pudding. And we had the most adorable waiter to ever exist. Clinton bought himself a Yukata in one of the shops there, and I was so tempted.

As soon as I got back, no sooner had I walked in the door than did Bambi come over and insist we go see Twilight. I think I'll leave it there.

The next morning I took a test for a county job (crossing my fingers for this), and that night we went to The Egg in Albany to see Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers. AMAZING SHOW. Not only was there an accapella cover of Fat Bottom Girls (complete with dancing), but a medley of music from the 40s-now, and towards the end, Kit stripped off all his clothes and danced in his underwear. Apparently I have a thing for chubby bassists who dance around in their boxers. :\ They're doing a New Year's extravaganza, hopefully we'll be able to make it.

Needless to say, I'm exhausted. Now I'm mostly just chilling and working on Christmas presents and reading. (I'm almost finished with Twilight... and I may post a review once I'm done. If I'm not lazy or feeling merciful). I think the worst sign of not getting enough sleep is when you start to have dreams about Hermione Granger and the Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles fighting evil sharks together. :\

There's a lot of good stuff to get my mind off of everything in the next few weeks, so I'm happy for that. Bambi, Jackie, Mollie, and I are going camping next weekend (in a cabin, we won't freeze to death), and they're having a Halloween costume contest there. Bambi has decided that we must be the 'House of Pop' and all dress as pop stars, preferably from the 80s. Jackie is going as Tiffany, Bambi is going as Donnie. I think I'm going to attempt Madonna. I'm feeling ambitious.

And Hanson in two weeks! ♥ ♥ ♥

I'm definitely glad to have some distractions lately.

You know you've seen The Dark Knight too many times when you can pick out an actor that had all of two minutes of screen time in the movie when you see him in a Burger King commercial. And then you look it up online, and realize that you were actually right about it too.

WTF.

[music |Coldplay - The Scientist]

God, I hate it when you have a dream about someone that really taints the way you see them for a day or two. Namely, last night I had a weird dream about James, and my old best friend Ryan kept warning me to stay away from him. omg ~inner turmoil~

Anyway, I'm starting to feel a bit better about the weekend. I just really hope he enjoyed it too and wants to get together again. D: See, here I am again with my paranoia. Sigh.

One positive thing about this is that I've been writing a ton lately... like, three songs, a poem, started a new story. Seriously, I forget how inspired I can be to actually be productive when my life isn't completely boring and stagnant... only a little boring and stagnant.

In other exciting news, my car is going to be fixed tomorrow! Apparently, it was leaking transmission fluid and is an inch from death. But hopefully with it fixed up, I'll be that much closer to my license, a job... please? Something? Even if I have to borrow cars from other people, I just need something to get my license on, so I can have it done with.

I can't believe it's September right now. I really feel like I should be in school, or at least doing something with my life. I miss everyone from school, hell, I even miss being in classes. It's the first time in my life that I've spent a September at home, with no real goals. It's a very strange feeling.
